A Feathered Farewell

That one blue egg represents a life time of hard work.

Henrietta.

Every 25 hours or so, a chicken delivers the goods, whether there’s a rooster by her side or not.

Henrietta was no slacker.

And the blue egg among the brown proved it.

Our beautiful white matriarch of the coop.

Ameraucana or Araucana ~ not sure which.

Perhaps she was a little of both.

We got her in the spring of 2001, as a give-a-way.

An old worn out hen from the Wolverine area.

She passed on earlier this month with no warning, no fanfare.

The previous day she had been out free-ranging for some tasty morsels with the gals and their protector, our beautiful rooster.

Although we have some new two-year olds in our flock, we will miss the ole’ gal.

And that single blue egg.

Until tomorrow ~ God willing and knowing,

Woodswoman
