Digital or Darkness ~ We chose the dark…

Back in December, I was excited our little pint-sized T.V. was going black.

Now, as the day is here, I’m still excited.

In the final days leading up to the darkness, I pondered. What will I miss?

I know what I won’t miss.

We have been using rabbit ears for over 8 years now.

We received the “major” channels. ABC, CBS, NBC and although fuzzy, FOX.

Now, silence.

We can put the rabbit ears away for good.

It feels right. It feels natural.

Nothing but the sounds of nature.

And Mother Nature as our time clock.

Until tomorrow ~ T.V. Free ~ God willing,

Polypay on the Way

In just two short weeks, we will be adding new spring babies to our farm.

Polypay lambs.

I love having new farm babies.

It fills a deep seated need to mother.

Our new Polypay X lambs will come from an Amish farm in Gladwin. Levi Troyer.

I’ve been visiting this farm for the last 14+ years, making it a guaranteed stop on my Amish treks.

I love visiting Gladwin, Beaverton, but am leary of heading below Clare.

That is where the line is drawn for travel.

It will be odd coming home with little Polypays, just weaned.

We are used to mothers delivering their babies on site.

Belle. Our dear Hampshire/Cheviot cross.

We were given Belle, with babies in her belly.

Her prior owner said she delivered lambs that died of heart problems, once on the ground.

We steeled ourselves for that possibility, but Belle gave birth to twins who were robust and strong. Forest and Bubba. Two boys.

The next year, she delivered twins again. Lucky and Leader. A girl and boy.

We miss Belle…

We had only two sets of black-wooled babies, before Belle left our farm to live with Lucky at a local Veterinarian’s ranch.

It will be good for Luna, who is exactly 3-months old, to have some babies as farm friends.

Spring is for new life.

New beginnings.

A new dawn.

Sunday Ride

Sundays have rituals.

In the summer months, the ritual includes horses.

And long rides.

Leaving the property.

And heading out for the unknown.

Picking up friends along the way.

Two-legged and four-legged.

Spending the day, seeing the sights, and enjoying the ride.

Saying goodbye at the end of the day, knowing you’ll do it all again next week.

Until tomorrow ~ God willing,

Mustang Mania

Year ’round, like clockwork, our farrier, Bruce, comes to trim the three horses.

It’s a set date.

Every six weeks.

Carved in stone.

And Nauish (pronounced Now-eesh) knows it.

And Bruce knows it.

And Rustic Russ knows it.

Nauish and I have the same mind set when it comes to pedicures.

No way, no how, nothin’ doin’.

Bruce has some convincing to do.

Sweet talk helps.

Then again, prayer works wonders.

Amazing. My sweet boy succumbs every time.

Life Fully Lived

Full moon’s a comin’.

I’ll be ready.

No more Weekend Warrior for this gal.

Every day is an opportunity.

Whether it is an earthy task, like planting your garden.

Infusing fresh air into your clothing ~ rustic style.

Or Mustang groundwork with your 4-year old.

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” Mark Twain

I’m not sayin’ I’m ready to leave this Earth just yet.

I’m just doing what makes me happy. Happy like a Bluebird.

With two of my favorite buddies in the whole world.

Until tomorrow ~ God willing (knowing He makes this decision…),

Alternate Trail

My good friend, Tim, will be disbanding his Siberian kennel and moving out West.

His presence will be missed.

True dog men don’t come along every day.

They are not made.

They are born with the gift.

Tim Riley has the gift.

A gentle hand. A kind word.

At home in nature.

I will miss his obvious passion for sled dogs, and all dogs, young and old.

I only hope our paths will cross again.

We wish him well.

Happy trails Tim.
